Abhinandan Singh made his IPL debut for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru against the SunRisers Hyderabad on March 28. The pace bowler ended with figures of 1/38 in his three-over spell.
Although Singh had an economy rate of more than 12 runs per over, he managed to take the crucial wicket of Ishan Kishan. The in-form Kishan was on 80 runs off 37 deliveries when he tried an aerial shot off Singh’s bowling, only to find Phil Salt taking an incredible catch in the deep.
Singh will likely get more opportunities to prove himself in IPL 2026. Before he adds more wickets to his tally, here’s a look at five interesting facts to know about the new RCB star.
#1 Abhinandan Singh has been a part of RCB since 2025
Not many fans would know that Singh has won an IPL trophy already before his debut in the league. He was a member of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru squad which won the IPL in 2025.
RCB signed the uncapped pace bowler for ₹30 lakh in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction. He did not get any opportunities to play last season, but it looks like RCB see him as one of their main fast bowlers in IPL 2026 now.
#2 Abhinandan Singh was born in Uttar Pradesh
Like his RCB teammate Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Abhinandan Singh hails from the state of Uttar Pradesh. He was born on March 30, 1997 in Uttar Pradesh, and he has been quite impressive with the ball in the UP T20 League.
Singh is one of the few uncapped Indian fast bowlers who can swing the ball well and hit the deck when needed. It will be interesting to see if he can perform consistently in a high-pressure tournament like IPL 2026.
#3 Abhinandan Singh considers Rohit Sharma as his idol
Although Abhinandan is a fast bowler, his idol is India’s star opening batter Rohit Sharma. After a match between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2025, Abhinandan specially met Rohit and took his autograph. Posting the picture on Instagram, the RCB pacer wrote:
“They say never meet your idols, but this celebrity exceeded all my expectations.”
It looks like Abhinandan had a great chat with Rohit after the match against MI. This year, Abhinandan could end up bowling to Rohit when RCB take on MI.
#4 Abhinandan Singh was a net bowler for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2024
Before winning the IPL trophy with Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2025, Abhinandan was a net bowler for the Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2024. Incidentally, even KKR won the trophy that season.
Abhinandan has proven to be a lucky charm to the franchise he has been a part of in his brief IPL career. It will be interesting to see if the streak continues in 2026.
#5 Abhinandan Singh started bowling with a leather ball in 2020
Abhinandan will turn 29 years old on March 30. It might surprise a few fans that the current RCB fast bowler had not bowled with a leather ball until the time he was 23 years old.
Abhinandan started playing leather ball cricket in 2020. Four years later, he got a contract from the Lucknow Falcons in the UP T20 League, and since then, he has not looked back in his career.
