WWE’s thriller crate is a rib on veteran wrestling character, claims Vince Russo

Veteran wrestling writer Vince Russo recently spoke about the mystery crate angle on WWE TV. The storyline has fans guessing about who is in the box.

The mystery crate showed up on last week’s episode of RAW. The box carried the instructions not to be opened before February 28, 2026, coinciding with Elimination Chamber. RAW general manager Adam Pearce said that he couldn’t handle the drama and shipped it over to SmackDown.

On the blue brand, several stars gathered around the crate with excitement and curiosity, but Nick Aldis had it shipped back to RAW. During a recent episode of Russo’s The Brand, the veteran writer said that the whole angle was a rib on Jim Cornette by WWE.

This dates back to Cornette’s comments back in the day, claiming that anyone who came out of a box was immediately over. Russo felt WWE executive Bruce Prichard remembered the idea and was using the mystery crate as a means to rib Cornette.

“That is, for people that want to know if you don’t know, that is a Bruce Prichard one hundred percent Jim Cornette rib angle. One thousand percent.” He added, “It works. I am not denying that. People are going to tune in to see what’s in the box.”

WWE Elimination Chamber is in less than a week

The mystery of the crate will be solved at Elimination Chamber. The PLE is scheduled for February 28 in Chicago.

There are four matches advertised for the event. The PLE will feature the Men’s and Women’s Elimination Chamber matches. Women’s Intercontinental Champion Becky Lynch will put her title on the line against AJ Lee. World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk will defend his title against Finn Balor in a match that could have a huge impact on the WrestleMania main event.

It will be interesting to see who comes out the victor at Elimination Chamber.
