WWE could possibly be pressured to make an enormous change to championship match at WrestleMania 42

WrestleMania 42 takes place at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada, in less than two weeks’ time. However, WWE could reportedly be forced to make a massive change to a championship match scheduled for The Showcase of the Immortals.

Wrestling fans have been wondering why the Stamford-based promotion hasn’t announced IYO SKY vs. Asuka for WrestleMania 42. A recent report from Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Figure Four Online seemingly reveals why.

Alvarez reported that the match hasn’t been made official yet due to uncertainty around Nikki Bella’s medical status, who is scheduled to compete in the four-way contest for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship. The WWE Hall of Famer injured her ankle two weeks ago, and it was reported that Triple H and the creative team could be forced to replace The Bella Twins with The Kabuki Warriors if Nikki Bella did not get cleared to compete in the match.

It was further reported that IYO SKY vs. Asuka would move forward as planned in case Nikki Bella got the clearance. However, it is unclear what the backup plan for The Genius of the Sky is if Asuka competes in the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship match.

For those unaware, The Irresistible Forces will defend the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania 42 with three popular teams they have been feuding with for several weeks now. The challengers for the gold are The Bella Twins, Bayley & Lyra Valkyria, and Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss. The match will take place on Night 1.

Nikki Bella got injured on WWE SmackDown on the Road to WrestleMania 42

On the March 27 edition of Friday Night SmackDown, The Bella Twins locked horns with Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss in a traditional tag team contest. At some point during the match, Nikki landed awkwardly on her ankle and sustained an injury.

Despite Nikki getting injured, Brie Bella managed to win the match for her team by pinning Alexa Bliss after interference from Lash Legend. A brawl broke out shortly after the bout. However, Nikki Bella laid on the floor with medical staff checking in on her.

Although Nikki Bella appeared on Monday Night RAW the following week, she has reportedly yet to receive clearance from the medical team for the title match. It will be interesting to see if the WWE Hall of Famer can recover in time to wrestle at WrestleMania 42.
