The Los Angeles Rams have potentially selected veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford’s successor after drafting Alabama star Ty Simpson with the No. 13 pick on Thursday.
Stafford, who won the NFL MVP award last season, is returning for another season after quashing retirement rumors. With the selection of Simpson, widely regarded as the second-best quarterback behind Fernando Mendoza in this year’s draft class, the Rams have seemingly secured their quarterback room’s future.
Thanks for the submission!
However, former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant called out Sean McVay’s team for selecting the Alabama quarterback on Thursday.

NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that Rams coach Sean McVay informed Stafford about their plan to select Simpson on Thursday.
Simpson completed 64.5% of his passes for 3,567 yards and 28 touchdowns. However, his lack of experience could play a favor for the Rams as he has just 15 starts under his belt.

The Rams are expected to slowly integrate Ty Simpson into the starting role with Matthew Stafford assisting him in his transition from college football. The young quarterback expressed his excitement on learning from the reigning MVP and Rams coach Sean McVay.
“Two of the greatest minds in offense, especially with Coach McVay and the quarterbacks from an offensive standpoint,” Simpson said “And then Matthew is just one of the greatest of all time. So, I’m looking forward to it.”
Simpson has made the 4th fewest starts by any 1st-round QB over the last 25 years and is the first quarterback selected in the first round by the Rams since Jared Goff in 2016.
