Considered one of the best prospects in his class heading into the 2017 MLB Draft, the Minnesota Twins picked Royce Lewis as the first overall selection. The infielder was handed his big league debut five years later.
Right from day one, Lewis’ talent and potential was clear for all to see. However, he continued to struggle with repeated injury issues, and was never able to get a sustained run of playtime under his belt.
As Lewis and the Twins agreed to a one-year, $2.85 million deal to avoid salary arbitratration ahead of the 2026 season, all both parties hoped for was clean bill of health.

Unfortunately for the Twins, while the third baseman has managed to stay healthy, his offensive production has falled off a cliff. He currently has a .163 batting average with three home runs and 13 RBIs about two months into the season.
As a result, the organization decided to demote Lewis to Triple-A St. Paul on Tuesday.
Later the same day, Royce’s wife, Samantha, posted a strong message declaring her love for him, via her Instagram story.
“I love you endlessly ❤️,” Samantha Lewis posted.

Royce Lewis and his wife, Samantha, were both outstanding athletes in high school
Royce Lewis and his future wife, Samantha Hobert, reportedly first crossed paths while they were both attending JSerra Catholic High School in San Juan Capistrano, California.
While Lewis was a mainstay for the baseball team, Hobert played for the women’s soccer team.
Though he had initially committed to University of California, Irvine, Lewis ultimately passed up on the opportunity to go to college after being drafted by the Twins. Samantha, meanwhile, played soccer at Arizona State University.
The pair maintained a long distance relationship while their pursuits took them to seperate parts of the country, eventually announcing their engagement in 2023, before tying the knot two years later.
