Ilja Dragunov has reportedly left WWE following the end of his current contract. This breaking news took over the internet with a bang, and now fans are excited to see what he will be doing from here on in the world of professional wrestling. Amid all those speculations, a major report sheds light on the future of the star.
Reportedly, WWE did not release Ilja Dragunov. However, The Mad Dragon willingly left the company to pursue his wrestling career elsewhere. Fans are assuming that the former NXT Champion might be frustrated with his booking in the Stamford-based promotion. As a result, fans expect to see Dragunov in a promotion like All Elite Wrestling down the line.
According to Fightful Select, the promoters in Europe are also expecting Ilja to join AEW. There are no expectations to see the 32-year-old star on the independent wrestling scene. The report further adds that Dragunov could also end up with PROGRESS Wrestling for some time in the coming months.
Many fans predict seeing the former United States Champion making his AEW debut at All In next weekend. As per Dave Meltzer, that could be possible because Dragunov will not be serving the 90-day non-compete clause. Only time will tell what is in store for The Mad Dragon down the line.
Tony Khan comments on Ilja Dragunov’s WWE exit
Ilja Dragunov has been the talk of the town for the past few days. With the rumors of his potential debut in AEW, many of the top stars have shared their reactions to his WWE exit. Recently, AEW President Tony Khan commented on The Mad Dragon’s departure from the Stamford-based promotion.
During the ROH Death Before Dishonor post-show, Khan said that he is currently oblivious to the contractual situation of Ilja Dragunov. He did not give anything away about the potential entry of the former NXT Champion to AEW. However, he admitted that The Mad Dragon is an incredible professional wrestler.
“I’m not sure about the contractual status, but that’s a tremendous, tremendous professional wrestler, absolutely. Again, I don’t know exactly what the contractual status is of people that don’t work here. I can’t keep track of those things and there’s no way for me to know that, but one thing I do know is that’s a great wrestler,” said Khan.
People have started talking about potential dream matches for Dragunov in All Elite Wrestling. There is a strong belief that he could be the next big signing for Tony Khan in his All Elite regime.
