Researchers with the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization are baffled, according to one of their own, Matthew Moneymaker. He posted on Facebook last week images of what they’ve dubbed the “Syracuse Figure.”
What is it? That’s what they’d love to know. While they admit it looks like an old man wading into a pond, they’re not convinced that’s the case.
“The Syracuse Figure does not look like a classic bigfoot, but it does not look like a normal human either. The location and behavior (wading in a swamp) are more consistent with bigfoots than humans. What appears to be skin may actually be thinning wet fur that is laying flat,” Moneymaker wrote.

“The photos were shot at a relatively remote pond in Onondaga County (the county for Syracuse NY) by a hiker lady who was taking photos of the scenery around the pond. The BFRO’s investigator in Syracuse saw the photos and was intrigued, so he investigated them, first to determine if the witness/photographer was credible, then to try to find out what the figure is.”
This curiosity and willingness not to write the sighting off as just an elderly skinny-dipper without first taking into consideration all the possibilities is how the answers are going to be found one day.
Another wrinkle to this is the approximate size of the “Syracuse Figure.” Moneymaker added that it is believed to be “around 4 foot 9 inches tall.”

There have been other, shorter Bigfoot sightings reported in Pennsylvania recently. In fact, the BFRO was in the process of investigating these pictures, which they received in early August, when the mini-Bigfoot reports came out.

Is that what has been captured here? Is this a so-called mini-Bigfoot or an old guy without any clothes on going for a refreshing dip in a New York swamp? That’s what the researchers are hoping to find out.

They’ve concluded that the images are legit and the witness who took them is credible. They haven’t been able to identify what she captured on camera.
“We are posting the photos of the Syracuse Figure in hopes of being able to identify him/it,” Moneymaker added. “It might be an old man, or it might not be. If it’s a man then we assume someone in or near Onondage County will recognize him.”
