Deion Sanders’ third season with the Colorado Buffaloes got off to a thrilling start after his team secured a dramatic 14–13 victory against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in their Week 1 clash on Thursday.
The Buffaloes registered the comeback win after Colorado quarterback Julian Lewis’ clutch 75-yard drive that led to a 20-yard go-ahead touchdown in the final seconds of the game.

NFL analyst Jason Whitlock outlined Colorado’s improvement in the second half led by their quarterback.

“I gotta give Deion Sanders credit,” Whitlock said. “The Colorado Buffaloes, I know it was a sloppy game, but the Colorado Buffaloes look like a football team for the first time in Deion’s entire tenure. I don’t care about the 9-4 season, that was fraudulent. I don’t really buy it.

“This looked like a football team. Last night, they ran the football. They were tough. They were tough on the defensive side of the ball. They were resilient. They never gave up. The offense, the quarterback looked horrible most of the game and then the quarterback showed some moxie, showed some skills, led a 75 yard game-winning drive at the end of the game.”
Lewis completed 14-of-24 passes for 124 yards with a touchdown. The Buffaloes, who trailed 10-7 after the first half, outscored Georgia Tech 7-3 in the fourth quarter for the win.

Jason Whitlock, who has been critical of the Buffaloes coach and his team over the last two seasons, praised the NFL legend for getting a “real football team” after their dramatic win over Georgia Tech.
“I can’t believe this is going to come out of my mouth, but it has to come out of my mouth. Deion Sanders, you finally got a team that for a night, looked like a real football team. I was halfway impressed.
“Deion put a real football team out on the field, a tough football team, a physical football team, a team that ran the ball like 40 times last night. I got to salute Deion Sanders.”
