Report: WWE locker room shocked following 34-year-old wrestler’s launch

A 34-year-old superstar shockingly departed WWE on September 5. A new report has surfaced about the internal reaction to the wrestler’s release.

Wendy Choo was recently released from her WWE contract, marking the end of her seven-year run with the organization. She first appeared on the company’s programming as part of the Mae Young Classic in 2018. The following year, she officially inked a deal with the sports entertainment juggernaut.

Choo was primarily featured on NXT and Evolve during her tenure. However, injuries and a lack of TV time arguably prevented her from reaching her true potential. Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter recently reported that the entire WWE Performance Center was “shocked” at Choo’s release.

According to the abovementioned report, many within the company didn’t expect the former Evolve Women’s Champion’s name to be included in this past Friday’s NXT roster cuts.

Wendy Choo also competed under the TNA Wrestling banner during her run. The upstart’s last bout for the sports entertainment juggernaut came on August 25, 2026. She lost to Karmen Petrovic in a dark match at an NXT taping. Choo also wrestled RAW Superstar Maxxine Dupri on the August 17 edition of Main Event.

WWE reportedly released 10 superstars this past Friday

WWE releases talents from the main roster and its developmental system every year. In April 2026, following WrestleMania 42, the sports entertainment juggernaut shockingly parted ways with prominent superstars, such as Aleister Black, Kairi Sane, and The Wyatt Sicks. The unfortunate development was followed by NXT roster cuts this past Friday.

Besides Wendy Choo, the Stamford-based promotion released nine superstars as part of the latest round of NXT roster cuts. Jasper Troy, PJ Vasa, Braxton Cole, Zena Sterling, and Adriana Rizzo, among others were let go by the sports entertainment juggernaut. Unsurprisingly, the move didn’t sit well with fans and pro wrestlers.

Superstars released in April recently returned to the ring for different promotions after the conclusion of the 90-day non-compete clause in their contracts. However, superstars who left the company this past Friday are widely expected to have a 30-day non-compete clause because they were signed to developmental deals. It will be interesting to see what’s next for them in the world of pro wrestling.
