As using ranged champions in the top lane has been a priority recently, the developers are looking to tweak the power level here and there to keep the melee champions feeling feasible to use. Regarding the ranged picks, RiotPhroxzon mentioned that,

“We don’t feel comfortable taking a large swing here, especially before Worlds, but just wanted to let y’all know that we’re working on some small changes to make it a bit more tolerable for melee champions”

He also asserted that,

“This will hopefully allow us to also buff some of the ranged champions that are normally played bot who were nerfed due to their top lane performance (eg. Vayne), but we won’t be able to do this until this set of systems changes is released”

The developers think champions that are easy to use shouldn’t be too overpowered in the meta. They need to have some negative aspects that make them vulnerable at times. In this regard, Nasus has been a factor recently because of his stacking prowess and becoming a late-game demon. That’s why he’s going to get nerfed a bit in League of Legends patch 26.19. RiotPhroxzon said that,

“Nasus, however, has been strong according to this principle, even when accounting for his mastery curve, and he has more sharp success conditions now with Q 4 stacks; in lanes where he can stack freely, he becomes more of a threat, while in lanes where he’s contested, he’s easier to keep down. This often means when you run into Nasus in a good matchup, he’s often scaled without much holistic counterplay for the team (only his lane opponent).”

All system changes in League of Legends patch 26.19 preview

Here are all the changes to the system elements in the League of Legends patch 26.19 preview, as revealed by RiotPhroxzon:

System buffs

  • Top Role Quest TP Cooldown
  • Support HP Regen

The enchanters and ranged support champions are extremely strong in the current meta, specifically when compared to the melee characters. With the next update, the melee picks will have more capability to take poke damage and engage appropriately. This should help pro support players during the laning stage as well as team fights.

The official LoL patch 26.19 will hit the live server on September 23, 2026.
