Since making his debut in 2023, Elly De La Cruz has established himself as one of the most exciting talents in the big leagues. He has two All-Star selections to his name.
Though he is still under team control for three more years, his free agency is a hot topic. While the Reds would no doubt like to keep hold of arguably their most influential player, it looks like the shortstop has different plans.

This was enough to send plenty of fans into overdrive on social media. Many left comments on the post, linking the infielder to big market teams.

On Tuesday’s episode of “Foul Territory,” The Athletic’s C. Trent Rosecrans talked about Elly De La Cruz’s future, and why his desire to win could ultimately lead to him joining a more successful team.
“To spend your career in a place like Cincinnati, you’ve got to really want to be here,” Rosecrans said. “I think Elly wants to be here while he’s here, but he is also a guy that has some bigger ambitions. De La Cruz is a competitor and he wants to win.”
“It’s going to be a challenge to put a team around him while he’s still here. I don’t think anyone can expect him to be with the Reds his entire career. It’s not practical. It’s not realistic.”
De La Cruz is eligible to become a free agent after the end of the 2029 MLB season.
