The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027 auction will return to domestic soil after three years abroad. The coastal state of Goa is set to host the event in December ahead of the 2027 season, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia announced on Wednesday.
The move marks the first time an IPL auction will be staged in India since December 2022, when Kochi hosted the bidding ahead of the 2023 season. Over the past three editions, the BCCI held auctions overseas across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Saudi Arabia.
“This year, after hosting the IPL auction in three foreign locations, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi last year, we are going to host it in Goa in the month of December,” Saikia said via The Indian Express.
The upcoming gathering will serve as the final mini-auction of the league’s 2023-27 cycle. Saikia’s confirmation follows remarks made a week earlier by IPL chairman Arun Dhumal, who noted logistical challenges had previously pushed the event overseas.
“Every year we try for this to happen in India, but we don’t get the venue given the heavy marriage season,” Dhumal told Press Trust of India. “So, we definitely want it to be here this year, given that it would be a smaller auction, and hopefully we will get the venue.”

Franchises have already begun reshaping their squads for the next season ahead of the December auction.
In a notable player swap outside the auction pool, India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant is set to return to the Delhi Capitals following two difficult campaigns leading the Lucknow Super Giants. In exchange, Lucknow will acquire left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav for INR 13.50 crore.
Pant struggled for form during his stint with Lucknow, scoring just 269 runs in IPL 2025 and 312 runs in 2026.
