The Witcher 3 features an extensive world filled with monsters, supernatural forces, and characters with dangerous powers. Compared to the protagonist Geralt, a genetically mutated monster hunter who relies on steel, potions, and armor, there are several figures who possess ethereal powers. Players are introduced to an ancient vampire with incredible speed, witches that can shapeshift to lure people, and a humble merchant of mirrors that can stop time.
While there are several intriguing personas in the award-winning game, this list features the seven strongest characters. Their sheer powers extend beyond the realm of humans.

7 characters in The Witcher 3 with immense power
Philippa Eilhart
Philippa spent most of her time in The Witcher 3 as an owl in Zoltan Chivay’s possession. She is one of the few sorceresses to have mastered polymorphism, often using it to spy on people. Formerly King Vizimir’s advisor, she is also a shrewd tactician who uses her political cunning to rebuild the Lodge of Sorceresses, attempting to sideline Yennefer and manipulate Ciri to secure power for the mages.
Philippa, like most sorceresses, has a range of abilities. Her fire-bending, electricity manipulation, portal creation, and teleportation powers are displayed during her fight with Geralt inside Dijkstra’s quarters. She can also control humans to do her bidding and create forcefields to protect herself. Overall, with her powers and cunning, she is a powerful figure.
Whispess
Whispess, the eldest of the crones of Crookback Bog, does not rely on brute strength. Her main power is the information she gathers from human ears that hang all over Velen, which she obtained as tribute from villagers. This allows Whispess and the other witches to plan their future hideouts and make terrible deals with unsuspecting people, like the one with Anna Strenger during the Bloody Baron quest.
Whispess can transform into a flock of crows, summon monsters on her land, and shapeshift into a young woman to charm males. During her fight with Ciri, she uses her long arms to inflict damage and dives into the bloody water on the floor of the cave to change her position and make an ambush.
Dettlaff van der Eretein
Dettlaff is a higher vampire with incredible powers. In the Blood and Wine expansion of The Witcher 3, he gruesomely murders four knights in Toussaint after being manipulated by Sylvia Anna (Syanna). Despite his weak and stubborn mind, his vampiric abilities make him nearly immortal.
As a higher vampire, Dettlaff has supernatural strength and speed, and the ability to assume a human-like appearance. During the Night of the Long Fangs quest, if you choose to fight the vampire, he manages to bite Geralt without giving him a chance to react. Dettlaff then turns into a monster with several sharp claws and bat-like wings, and he wields dark magic devastatingly to kill Geralt.
Yennefer
Yennefer is a standout sorceress from The Lodge. While helping Geralt in The Witcher 3, she nonchalantly creates portals, wields different elemental powers, and even performs forbidden spells related to necromancy. Yennefer’s powers combined with her sheer determination make her one of the strongest characters in the game.
A display of Yennefer’s sheer power is seen during the late-game quests. She casts a massive magical protective shield over the Kaer Morhen fortress, which stays for several minutes, despite the overwhelming force of the Wild Hunt enemies. Later, she uses magic to create a massive dome that prevents the freezing effects brought by the Wild Hunt, except for Eredin’s ship, the Naglfar.
Unseen Elder
Ancient figures, such as the crones, possess tremendous amounts of supernatural power. The Unseen Elder is a higher vampire who is one of the oldest living entities in The Witcher 3. He is introduced in the Blood and Wine expansion as an unnamed vampire that arrived after the Conjunction of Spheres roughly 1500 years before the events of the game.
Given that the vampire society operates on seniority, the Unseen Elder’s age puts him leagues above vampires like Regis and Dettlaff. During the “What Lies Unseen” main quest, the ancient being is witnessed to possess speed faster than the blink of an eye. He can summon lesser vampires in an area and even command the respect of Regis and Dettlaff naturally.
Gaunter O’Dimm
Gaunter O’Dimm is the main antagonist in the Hearts of Stone expansion of The Witcher 3. Rightly called the Evil Incarnate, he poses as a merchant of mirrors but has almost demon-like abilities. O’Dimm incited people to trade their souls for everything they wished, but the fulfilment of these wishes ultimately made their lives miserable.
Gaunter O’Dimm is arguably stronger than the Unseen Elder because he can stop time, play genie to a person’s wishes, and return to collect their soul. His demonic magic is different from the magic wielded by witches, and the true extent of his powers was never fully disclosed.
Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon (Ciri)
As the final bearer of the ancient gene originating from Lara Dorren, Ciri holds incredible power in The Witcher 3. She has a natural connection to raw magic that often explodes when she is terrified or overwhelmed. An example of her chaotic magic is seen after the death of Vesemir, where she lets out a roar that stuns battle-hardened warriors of the Wild Hunt and creates shockwaves in a wide area.
Ciri’s innate power allows her to jump to different worlds, travel alternate dimensions, and skip timelines. During combat, she can teleport and catch enemies unaware. The Child of the Elder Blood also got sufficient magic and combat training from Yennefer and Geralt to make her an unstoppable force at an early age.
Ciri is set to be the protagonist of The Witcher 4.
