Veteran India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja came up with an interesting celebration after ending his frustrating wicketless streak in the second ODI against the West Indies. The game is being played on Wednesday, September 30, in Guwahati.
On the second ball of the 43rd over, he picked up the big wicket of Amir Jangoo. It was a short delivery outside the off stump that Jangoo cut. However, he hit it straight into the hands of Ruturaj Gaikwad at backward point. While it was not a smooth catch, Gaikwad managed to hold onto it, sticking on with his fingertips before clutching the ball with his body. The ball bounced a bit extra and Jangoo failed to control the shot.
Ravindra Jadeja folded both his hands on his head and signalled the batter to walk away, bringing up an interesting celebration.

Jangoo was dismissed for 114 runs off just 77 balls. His knock included 13 fours and three sixes. Ravindra Jadeja had last picked up a wicket in ODIs in December 2025 against South Africa when he had dismissed Temba Bavuma. After that game, the wicket of Jangoo was his first in the format across five matches in 2026.
India’s spin coach backs Ravindra Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja had last played an ODI in the home series against New Zealand before the ongoing West Indies series. With Axar Patel being away for the Asian Games 2026, the veteran all-rounder was called back into the ODI setup.
While there have been question marks on his place in the side as he was unable to pick up wickets, India’s spin bowling coach, Sairaj Bahutule, backed Jadeja as a utility player.
“For me, he has always been a utility player. He is somebody who can contribute with the bat as well as with the ball. He has definitely improved as a bowler over the last six months,” he said in a press-conference before the start of the second ODI.
“I thought in the Test matches he bowled really well in Sri Lanka, as well as now in the ODIs. It is just the first game after a long period, but he has done well,” he added.
For Ravindra Jadeja to make his place in the squad for the 2027 World Cup, he will have to improve on his performance with the ball in the games to come leading up to the tournament.
