Team India are all set for their five-match T20I series as part of the multi-format away tour of New Zealand. The series will begin with the opening clash to be played at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch on Thursday, October 22.
The Men in Blue have been successful in the last two T20I series that they played in New Zealand. In 2022, they won the three-match series 1-0. In 2020, they completed a clean sweep, winning the five-match series 5-0.
As they return for another series, Shreyas Iyer and Co. will be keen to carry forward the dominant run and help India begin the tour on a positive note. Several players will have vital roles to play for the visitors. Meanwhile, some big names will also have their eyes on milestones that they can achieve in this series.
On that note, here are five records that Indian players can break in the five-match T20I series against New Zealand.
#1 Most T20I wickets for India in a year
Left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh is the leading wicket-taker for the Men in Blue in T20Is. In 2026, he has played 27 games so far and has picked up 35 wickets at an average of 24.68 and an economy rate of 9.20. Arshdeep is just three wickets away from breaking a major record.
He is only behind veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who holds the record for the most wickets in T20Is for India in a year. He claimed 37 wickets from 32 matches in 2022. Therefore, Arshdeep can overtake Bhuvneshwar and break the record.
#2 Most T20I runs versus New Zealand for India
Former skipper Suryakumar Yadav holds the record for the most runs in T20Is against New Zealand by an Indian batter. He has 526 runs from 14 games at an average of 52.60 and a strike rate of 170.22.
Star batter Ishan Kishan, who is in excellent form, has the opportunity to go past Suryakumar and break this record. He currently has 372 runs from 12 matches at an average of 31.00 and a strike rate of 162.44. The left-hander needs 155 runs to break this record and has five matches in the series to do so.
#3 First Indian wicketkeeper to score 100 T20I sixes
Star opener Sanju Samson has already achieved the feat of hitting the most sixes in T20Is as a wicketkeeper for the Men in Blue. However, he has the opportunity to go where no wicketkeeper from the country has ever gone before.
Samson could become the first wicketkeeper for the Men in Blue to score 100 T20I sixes. He has 87 sixes from 58 T20Is as a designated wicketkeeper and needs only 13 more to reach a century of sixes.
#4 First Indian Opener to score 1000 T20I runs in a year
Abhishek Sharma has had a year of ups and downs with the bat. Despite a few lows in Ireland and England, he has managed to score 956 runs from 34 matches in 2026, at an average of 28.96 and a strike rate of 201.68, with a century and eight half-centuries.
Abhishek Sharma is just 44 runs away from reaching the 1000-run mark this year. If he manages to do so, he will become the first opener for the Men in Blue to score 1000 T20I runs in a year.
#5 Most T20I runs in a calendar year for India
It has been a phenomenal year with the bat for Ishan Kishan in T20Is. In 34 games so far in 2026, he has scored 1158 runs at an average of 37.35 and a strike rate of 172.06, with a hundred and seven half-centuries.
Ishan Kishan is just seven runs away from breaking a major batting record. Currently, Suryakumar Yadav holds the record for the most T20I runs in a calendar year for the Men in Blue. He scored 1164 runs from 31 games in 2022. Kishan might need just one game to overtake Suryakumar and break this record.
