Braga and Famalicão get their 2026-27 Taça da Liga campaign underway when they square off at the Estádio Municipal de Braga on Thursday. The Vila Nova will head into the midweek tie aiming to get one over the hosts, having failed to win the last five meetings between the two teams since August 2023.
Braga continue to struggle for results in the Portuguese Primeira Liga as they fell to a 1-0 defeat against Nacional when the two sides squared off at the Estádio da Madeira.
Thanks for the submission!
Franclim Carvalho’s men have lost three consecutive league matches, conceding six goals and scoring twice, a result which has seen them drop into eighth place in the league standings.
Braga will look to find their feet in the Taça da Liga, where they will be aiming to go one step further than their run from last season, having reached the final before suffering a 2-1 defeat against Vitória de Guimarães back in January.
On the other hand, Famalicão returned to winning ways in style last weekend when they thrashed Rio Ave 4-0 in their Primeira Liga clash at the Estádio do Rio Ave FC.
Before that, Vila Nova saw their four-game unbeaten run in the Primeira Liga (1W 3D) come to an end on October 12, when they were beaten 4-1 by Alverca, six days before crashing out of the Taça de Portugal following a disappointing 1-0 loss to third-tier USC Paredes.
Famalicão, who sit 11th in the league standings, now turn their sights to the Taça da Liga, where they are making a return to the competition for the first time since their group exit back in the 2022-23 campaign.
