A recent report has shed light on how a popular name reached out to WWE President Nick Khan regarding potentially working with the company again. It was noted that Vince Russo had inquired about a role but didn’t hear anything in return.
A couple of days ago, Conrad Thompson broke the news about Russo establishing contact with WWE recently. This came as a surprise to fans, as for many years, Vince Russo hasn’t hesitated to blast the company’s product on his podcast.
Thanks for the submission!
For those unaware, Russo was a mastermind behind WWE’s most successful period, the Attitude Era, in the late 90s. He later joined WCW before briefly returning to the global juggernaut in 2002. Over the last decade, Vince Russo has mostly focused on his podcast while also running the creative for Juggalo Championship Wrestling for a year before quitting last month.
PWInsider is reporting that the rumors regarding Russo reaching out to WWE were indeed true. It was also revealed that the former WCW Champion reached out to Nick Khan only to be met with silence. WWE sources also made it clear that there was no discussion beyond that and that Russo was not working for them.
Russo, who’s active on the internet through his podcast, The Brand, hasn’t yet publicly addressed the rumors of him contacting his former employers.
WWE veteran Vince Russo on departing JCW
Last month, Russo issued a lengthy statement regarding his decision to leave Juggalo Championship Wrestling. The veteran confessed that he had been unhappy for a while and that it was the right time to move on from the company.
Vince Russo also added that he wasn’t a young man anymore and wasn’t up for the demanding schedule.
“To my BELOVED Supporters, Over the past few weeks I have received many e-mails, dms and text messages concerning my status with @jcwlunacy. For those of you who know me, you know I don’t hide from the truth, I don’t avoid the truth and I certainly don’t lie about the truth. The reason for my silence was that . . . I just didn’t know. I just needed some time. I’d been unhappy for a while in @jcwlunacy and I’m not going to deny that. Something had to change. Without getting into specifics, there were a lot of reasons with the biggest one being that at 65 . . . I’m not the same guy I was 30 years ago. Things have changed, life has changed and more importantly . . . I’ve changed.”
Only time will tell what lies ahead for Russo in the wrestling business.
