The Pittsburgh Steelers are now facing a shortage in the secondary, and a former teammate thinks it is “punishment”.
During Thursday’s game against the Cleveland Browns, the reigning AFC North champions lost cornerback Jamel Dean, whom they had signed for $36.75 million over three years in the offseason, to an ankle injury. At the time of his injury, he had one tackle and pass deflection each. He was replaced opposite Asante Samuel Jr. by rookie Daylen Everette.
Thanks for the submission!
“Steelers have ruled CB Jamel Dean OUT … goes without saying that it’s less than ideal timing.”

It came a day after the franchise traded Joey Porter Jr. to the Dallas Cowboys for two draft picks in 2027 and 2028. And former defensive tackle Breiden Fehoko posited a correlation between the two events:
“The Steelers refused to pay their homegrown cornerback market money. Now the big-money corner they paid this offseason gets hurt. Talk about karma.”
Dean and Porter, however, have not been the only members of the Steelers’ secondary this season known to have been injured. Nickelback Jalen Ramsey has also been reported to be nursing a fractured wrist. The team had attempted to alleviate their woes by elevating Doneiko Slaughter to the active roster before Thursday.
