Ahead of AEW All In: London 2026, happening this weekend in Wembley Stadium, a major female star has announced her premature retirement from the ring. This was due to an unforeseen injury she sustained.
Mercedes Martinez made her debut for the Tony Khan-led promotion in 2019 and appeared in a couple of matches for the company. But she did not officially become All-Elite until 2021. This was the case until earlier this year, when her contract expired and was not renewed.
The veteran revealed on social media that she was cutting short her “Last Run Tour” due to an injury she sustained almost two weeks ago. During her match with Allie Katch, she ended up tearing her ACL. This was supposed to be her final year as a full-time wrestler, but this unexpected setback puts it to a quick end.

“💔 With a heavy heart, the #LastRunTour is over. Aug 15 @2CWrestling, knee gave out during my match w/ @AllieKATCH. Torn ACL. Surgery tbd. Thank you to everyone who has reached out and supported me. Not goodbye to wrestling. Just goodbye to the in-ring portion. Mercedes,” Martinez wrote.
The former AEW star hoped to face Nattie before she retires
Back in March, Mercedes Martinez mentioned how an entry on her wrestling bucket list was getting to face Natalya (aka Nattie) before she retires. She mentioned how she has gotten to wrestle several top women in the business, but unfortunately they were never booked to face one another. She wanted to face the real version of the WWE Superstar.
Nattie caught wind of this and agreed to the idea. She was open to having a match with the former AEW star.
“Would be so cool to make this happen.” – wrote Nattie.
Unfortunately, this will not become a reality this year. After her AEW run, Mercedes Martinez had a retirement run similar to Bryan Danielson’s, where she went all out for her final year as a full-time competitor. Now, after she recovers from her injury, it remains to be seen if she’ll rule out competing completely like the American Dragon, or if there will be a chance for sporadic appearances.
