Minnesota Wild face a major setback ahead of the 2026-27 NHL season as Brock Faber has been ruled out indefinitely. On September 29th, Tuesday, the Wild announced that Faber sustained a skull fracture in a preseason game on Friday and underwent successful surgery on Sunday.
Apart from the post on the Minnesota Wild’s X (formerly Twitter) handle, GM Bill Guerin also commented on Faber’s injury. According to The Athletic’s Michael Russo, Guerin said that Faber is doing really well, and the team will follow the doctor’s lead. Guerin said:
“He just had a serious surgery and an injury, so we’re just gonna (update) you guys when the time’s right. But he’s doing well. He’s doing really well, which is good news. And we’ll just follow the doctor’s lead.”
In the 2025-26 regular season, Brock Faber was one of the Minnesota Wild’s key players. Faber played 80 games for the Wild in which he recorded 51 points (15 goals, 36 assists). While there is no update on when Faber will return, Minnesota fans will hope he comes back soon given how crucial he is to the process at the Wild.
Brock Faber had earlier received massive praise from Quinn Hughes
One of the Minnesota Wild’s biggest names, Quinn Hughes, was highly appreciative of Brock Faber recently. In a media interaction on day one of training camp, Hughes revealed that being paired with Faber for a full season was very exciting.
Hughes said:
“I think it’s an insane difference because, I mean, he’s just already reading off me, and I’m reading off him in scrimmage, and it’s just easy… He knows exactly what I’m thinking. I kind of know what he’s thinking, and that’s just going to continue to build. So I’m excited to just kind of start the season, and we’ll take it, I think, where we left off, honestly.”
While Brock Faber continues to recover from his surgery, his partner Quinn Hughes will have more responsibility given he does not have Faber by his side now. It will be worth observing how Faber’s absence affects Minnesota’s defense in the 2026-27 season.
