The Indiana Fever selected Raven Johnson with the No. 10 pick in this year’s WNBA draft. On Wednesday, Johnson shared her experience as a pro so far with her former South Carolina coach, Dawn Staley, and former Gamecocks teammate, Tessa Johnson.
While the intricate details of the conversation remain unknown, Staley tweeted an image of her video conference with Tessa and Raven.
“Training camp chronicles with @HollywoodRaven! Giving @tessajohnsonnnn some valuable lesson about life in @WNBA! Each one teach one @GamecockWBB style!” Staley tweeted.
Raven enrolled at South Carolina in 2021. She didn’t play in her first year with the team due to a knee injury.
Raven left the Gamecocks as a two-time national champion. She was also named the SEC Defensive Player of the Year in her final season at South Carolina.
Indiana Fever HC Stephanie White heaps praise on Raven Johnson

Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White heaped praise on Raven Johnson’s defenisve ability on Tuesday.
“Well, I mean, certainly what we knew is that she’s a bear on the defensive end of the floor,” White said of Johnson. “You know, she’s got great active hands. You know, she doesn’t seem to get in mismatched situations because of her activity level on the defensive end.
“Her arms are like forever long. And she’s, you know, just working her way into figuring out the playbook. She’s a high-level communicator, so she does a really good job of communicating, especially with us on the sideline asking questions.”
Indiana will open its preseason against the New York Liberty on Saturday.
