We cashed our main play of the player prop yesterday as Gerrit Cole continues to torment Matt Olson. Sometimes a hitter or a pitcher just has a guy’s number, and that seems to be the case with Olson, who is otherwise a very good pitcher. The under in the game did not happen, though, as both teams did a fair bit of damage and the game ended up with nine runs.
Let’s try to avoid that fate today as we play the Dodgers and Diamondbacks game.

The Los Angeles Dodgers picked up the best pitcher in baseball at the trade deadline, and immediately started looking like the worst team in baseball. Just kidding. However, the Dodgers did lose seven straight games, and perhaps it was just them playing against some hot competition as the Red Sox are killing everyone, and the Cubs play very well at Wrigley Field.
Still, the Dodgers have to be happy getting a win yesterday and ending the skid. We know they are going to win 100 games and make the playoffs. They will be the favorite to win the World Series again, and they should be, even if this week was tough.

They send out Justin Wrobleski to the hill today for the start against Arizona. He has put together a nice campaign this season with an 11-3 record, 3.31 ERA, and a 1.07 WHIP. There are a lot of people who hate the Dodgers for getting free agents or trading for studs, but Wrobleski is a homegrown guy.
He is coming off his worst start of the season and back-to-back poor outings. He has allowed eight home runs in his past two starts, and a total of 12 earned runs in his last 10.1 innings. Considering he has now allowed 16 homers all season, I feel like this is a blip more than a pattern. I’m expecting to see him make adjustments and get back to what has worked.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are actually in a position where if the season ended today, they would find themselves once again in the postseason. We aren’t too far removed from them making a World Series appearance (and losing to the Rangers). Despite the Diamondbacks trading away players last year, and even some before the season started, they have put together a strong campaign. Their starting pitching has a few eye sores, but their hitting has done a good job of masking those.

One guy who has stood out for the Diamondbacks is today’s starter, Eduardo Rodriguez. For the year, Rodriguez is 10-4 with a 2.71 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP. He has been very strong at home, and has been solid in most of his starts overall. He has had some recent struggles, in two of his past four outings, he has allowed five earned runs. Both of those games happened in Arizona as well. However, it does seem like when he has a bad outing, he makes good adjustments for the next one.
Rodriguez has faced the Dodgers a few times already this season with two wins and one loss. He’s been very good in both of the games, though. He hasn’t allowed more than two earned runs in any of the three starts. Wrobleski has faced the Dodgers just once this season, and he allowed just six hits in six scoreless innings. He didn’t factor into the decision, but the Dodgers lost the game 3-2.

This is a game that I think we have to back the under again. The books hung it at nine, which is a bit of a reflection of how the starters have done recently, and a bit of a nod to the offense.
However, I do think in this divisional game, both starters will make some necessary adjustments. Rodriguez has done well against the Dodgers already, and Wrobleski has only really hurt himself because of homers. If he can keep the ball in the yard, this should stay under 9 runs.
