Dwelling explosion in Virginia kills 1 firefighter, injures 11 others

A Virginia firefighter is useless, and eleven others are injured after a house explosion obliterated a residence on Friday night.

In a press convention, Loudon County Fireplace & Rescue Assistant Chief of Operations James Williams stated that one firefighter is useless, 9 firefighters, and two civilians are injured after the explosion “totally devastated” a house in northern Virginia.

Authorities stated that on the time of the lethal explosion, firefighters have been inside the house. 

The Sterling Volunteer Fireplace Firm posted on X that crews responded to experiences of a gas leak that changed into a “structural fire” on the residence at 7:40 p.m. on Friday night.

“Soon after arrival, the house did explode,” Williams stated.

The incident started at about 8:20 p.m. on Silver Ridge Drive. Crews responded to a report of a gasoline leak and have been on the scene when the home exploded. (FOX 5)

Williams stated that the 9 firefighters and two civilians have been transported to local hospitals.

He stated that some had severe accidents.

Officers didn’t determine the firefighter killed within the blaze throughout the press convention however did say that the group was deeply affected by the incident.

“It’s a huge physical and emotional toll on everyone associated with the fire department. Obviously, the people who are trapped, the rescuers that are going in to try to pull them out, the incident commander,” Williams stated.

Residents stated that they heard an “enormous boom” that “shook” their whole residence.

“Enormous boom shook the whole house just now. Ran upstairs, outside with flashlights and all the neighbors were doing the same,” one Sterling resident informed FOX 5. “Apparently, a house exploded on a street nearby.”

Pictures from the scene confirmed a big regulation enforcement presence battling a hearth among the many residence’s rubble amid thick plumes of smoke.
