Freight practice carrying gasoline, propane derails close to Arizona-New Mexico line

A freight train derailed on Friday close to the Arizona-New Mexico border, halting site visitors alongside Interstate 40 as the realm recovers from extreme climate within the area.

The New Mexico State Police stated that they responded, alongside a number of different companies, to the freight practice splayed out alongside the interstate on Friday night.

“NMSP is on the scene of a practice derailment together with multiple other agencies on Interstate 40 milepost 8 close to the Arizona border,” the division stated in a press launch.

The company stated that there have been no reviews of accidents – regardless of the practice’s derailment in proximity to the busy interstate.

Authorities stated that the practice was carrying gasoline and non-odorized propane and promptly lit on fireplace.

Smith stated that the derailment got here after a tornado tore throughout Northeast Lincoln on Friday afternoon.

The NMSP stated that the interstate was closed in all instructions as companies labored to extinguish the fire

“I-40 is closed in all directions in Arizona and New Mexico,” the division stated. “In New Mexico, traffic is being diverted at I-40 exit 20 westbound onto U.S. 491 to State Road 264 to Ganado, to Highway 191.  In Arizona, traffic is diverted in Chambers onto Highway 191 to Ganado Arizona State Road 264 to U.S. 491.”
