Georgia HS soccer participant dies on eve of state championship, college says

A Georgia high school soccer participant was discovered useless sooner or later earlier than his staff performed within the state championship, district officers mentioned Sunday night time.

“We are heartbroken to hear the news of the tragic and untimely death of one of our student-athletes, Brandon Smith,” a letter from Meriwether colleges Superintendent Robert Griffin and Manchester Excessive Faculty Principal Suzie Neal reads, per the Atlanta Journal-Structure.

“Manchester High School’s celebration of playing for the Georgia Class A Division II State Championship has unfortunately turned into something none of us could have fathomed.”

Smith was remembered as a “loyal teammate and friend.” The varsity mentioned “he will be deeply missed.”

The reason for Smith’s loss of life was not introduced. In response to 11 Alive, his physique was discovered earlier Sunday night. Manchester authorities have been investigating his loss of life and reportedly requested the help of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

“We continue to pray for Brandon’s family, friends, teammates, and classmates. Manchester High School will have mental health support available starting on Monday morning,” the letter provides.
