The trade deadline is approaching, and New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen is watching the market. The Giants are looking to consolidate their top spot in the NFC East and potentially reach the playoffs for the first time since 2022.
According to Pro Football Talk, Schoen addressed the press on Tuesday, speaking about what it’ll take to make moves before the deadline.
Thanks for the submission!
“There are a lot of factors into it, in terms of where we are pick-wise,” Schoen said.

“We don’t have a fourth or a fifth right now. So, you take that into account. In some situations, that may rule some players out.

“Maybe that’s what their value is. Maybe a third is too rich or a sixth isn’t enough, so you start looking at future picks and contract status, and where we are depth-wise.
“So, we’re going to look at all the options that are available… And again, it’s got to make sense, short-term and long-term, when you make those moves.”
The New York Giants have dealt with a few injuries this season. Jaxson Dart could miss the rest of the season with a knee issue, while Tyrone Tracy Jr., Tremaine Edmunds, and Gunner Olszewski are currently on injured reserve.
Joe Schoen seems open to adding players to the roster. However, factors such as availability, draft compensation and suitability to the team’s play style must be considered. Only then would the general manager sanction adding one or more players to the NFC East leaders.
What’s next for the New York Giants?
The New York Giants are 4-2-1. They are fresh off a 27-21 overtime win against the Houston Texans at the NRG Stadium.
The Giants’ wins occurred against the Dallas Cowboys, Tennessee Titans, Arizona Cardinals and Texans. They tied with the Washington Commanders and lost to the Los Angeles Rams and New Orleans Saints. They currently sit atop the stacked NFC East.
Up next for Joe Schoen’s Giants is a Week 8 bye before facing the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 9. They’ll get some much-needed rest after starting the campaign above expectations.
The New York Giants will look to improve their chances against the Eagles in Week 9. Nick Sirianni’s team hasn’t won since Week 2 and will miss superstar quarterback Jalen Hurts due to blood clots.
