Greece to buy 35 Blackhawk helicopters from US to modernize navy

Greece has authorized the acquisition of 35 UH-60M Blackhawk helicopters from U.S protection contractor Lockheed Martin Corp in an effort to modernize its armed forces, two individuals with information of the deal instructed Reuters.

“The deal passed by the parliament’s committee is to buy 35 helicopters for $1.24 billion,” a authorities official instructed Reuters.

A second individual confirmed the approval, which was agreed late on Tuesday.

Greece goals to revamp its protection business and increase its shipbuilding business, because it recovers from a decade-long debt disaster that pressured it to slash spending.

The federal government has drafted a multi-billion, 10-year buying plan, that features buying as much as 40 new F-35 fighter jets from the U.S. and three frigates from France.
