Gurnoor Brar removes Tim Seifert for 38 with a well-directed bouncer in NZ vs IND 2026 1st ODI [Watch]

Indian pacer Gurnoor Brar broke a threatening partnership with a fierce bouncer to dismiss Tim Seifert for 38 in the first One-Day International against New Zealand at Eden Park on Wednesday.

The dismissal arrived right after the drinks interval in the 15th over. Bowling over the wicket, Brar banged the second ball of the over short and targeted Seifert’s ribs. The delivery reared up off the deck at an awkward height, cramping the right-hander for room.

Seifert attempted a hurried pull shot. Beaten by the steep lift, he mistimed the stroke and got a heavy top edge. The ball looped gently toward mid-on, where substitute fielder Ruturaj Gaikwad settled underneath to complete a comfortable catch. Seifert departed for 38 off 43 balls, an innings featuring three boundaries and two sixes.

Brar celebrated the breakthrough with intense energy. The tall fast bowler roared, pumped both fists, and pointed firmly at the pitch to mark the success of his short-ball strategy. Teammates quickly mobbed him, with captain Shubman Gill rushing in to deliver high-fives as the Indian dugout applauded the tactical setup.

The strike snapped an enterprising 33-run stand between Seifert and Daryl Mitchell, reducing the hosts to 73 for three in 14.2 overs. Earlier, Arshdeep Singh removed Will Young and Henry Nicholls in the Powerplay to put India in control.

Gurnoor Brar’s rapid emergence in India’s white-ball setup

Towering at 6 feet 5 inches, Punjab fast bowler Gurnoor Brar burst onto the international stage in June 2026, making a dream ODI debut against Afghanistan in Dharamshala, where he claimed three for 27 to announce his arrival.

Known for extracting awkward bounce, sharp carry, and lively pace off hard lengths, Brar has quickly established himself as an aggressive enforcer across tours to England, home fixtures against the West Indies, and the ongoing series against New Zealand.

In just his first nine appearances in ODI cricket, the tall right-arm quick has claimed 14 wickets, repeatedly unsettling top orders and providing India with vital breakthroughs through his short-pitched artillery and probing test-match lines.
