The Minnesota Timberwolves formally introduced Jonathan Kuminga on Thursday. Kuminga joined the Timberwolves on a two-year, $12.4 million contract. Before he signed, there were rumors that other teams were interested in him. When NBA fans learned why he signed with Minnesota, they attacked him online.
According to reports, the LA Lakers were one of the teams that offered Kuminga a deal. It was bigger than what the Timberwolves offered. The Lakers reportedly offered a three-year contract worth $12 million to $13 million annually. However, the athletic forward still chose to join Minnesota.

On Thursday, Kuminga explained why he chose the Timberwolves over other teams.

“I prayed over this and asked God to guide me and give me the best decision,” Kuminga said. “I think this was the best decision for me. I wanted to go to a winning culture, and I think this was one of the best winning cultures I could have chosen out of all the options.”
“As I said earlier, I spoke to so many people on this team, including the front office, coaches, and some of the players, and it was just the vibe I was looking for. I think that made this decision way easier, and I went with it.”

Jonathan Kuminga Says Joining the Timberwolves Was One of the Best Decisions He’s Made
Jonathan Kuminga took his time to review his options before inking a deal with the Timberwolves. Aside from the Lakers, teams like the Cleveland Cavaliers, Portland Trail Blazers and Chicago Bulls expressed interest in signing the one-time champion.
During his introductory press conference, Kuminga vocalized his genuine thoughts on joining Minnesota.
“The process was up and down,” said Kuminga. “Just looking back, I think I would say it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made, just looking at the roster, looking at the young group of guys they have and just seeing what they’ve done in the past.”
Jonathan Kuminga added that he believes he fits well with the roster that Minnesota has built. The Timberwolves are looking to contend for the NBA championship, and Kuminga wants to do everything to help.
