How to retrieve Golden Star’s energy core in Crimson Desert

Retrieving Golden Star’s power core in Crimson Desert is tied to a larger objective: destroying the flying Fortress Orbian. Before that can happen, the Golden Star dragon boss needs to go down first, and the power core comes automatically once the fight is over. The quest sits within Chapter 11: Truth and Reality, and this is one of the more involved boss encounters in the game, with a proper two-phase structure.

With that said, here is how to retrieve Golden Star’s power core in Crimson Desert.

Steps to retrieve Golden Star’s Power Core in Crimson Desert

Getting to the arena West of Grey Forest

The Golden Star is located west of the Grey Forest in an area called Master of a Forgotten Land, as shown on the map. Reaching the actual fight arena requires some vertical navigation, which can feel awkward at first. The easiest way to handle it is to use the grappling hook (Axiom Force), which turns what looks like a tricky climb into a straightforward ascent.

Once you are in the top arena, a cutscene plays before the fight begins.

Before focusing on the boss itself, the most important habit throughout this entire fight is to clear additional mobs the moment they appear. Robots join the arena during the fight, both flying bug types and larger heavy robots. The heavy ground robots will look like Mecha Workers with a big size.

The flying ones go down in a few hits and are not a major concern, but the big robots need to be taken out immediately when they spawn.

Letting them pile up while focused on the dragon is what causes things to fall apart quickly and stalls the retrieval of Golden Star’s power core.

Using the Marni Disruptor spears on the pillars

Positioned around the arena are glowing blue pillars that hold spears, and they are called Marni Disruptor Special Ammunition. Each one takes about two to three seconds to collect. Once picked up, the spear can be thrown at the Golden Star. The throwing animation is a bit finicky, and the boss can dodge if not close enough, but getting in range allows the spear to lock on.

These throws are the primary way to build up the yellow stagger meter visible just below the boss’s health bar. Two things to watch with the pillars: if the dragon’s fire breath hits one, avoid grabbing from it until the fire clears, or damage will be taken.

Also, if the boss is running around the arena, landing throws becomes harder, so patience here matters.

Building the stagger meter for maximum damage

Once the stagger meter fills from enough spear hits or with your bows, the Golden Star staggers. That window is the highest damage opportunity in the fight. Run in and open with a Turning Slash, then follow up by spamming the right trigger for continued heavy attacks. When stamina runs low, switch to the right bumper quick attacks to keep pressure on without stalling.

When the boss is on the ground, stunned for a few seconds, you must hit it with everything available during that window before it recovers and cycles back through its attack pattern.

The four attacks and how to read them

The Golden Star cycles through four main attacks. Here is what each one looks like and how to handle it:

  • Dragon breath: Telegraphed clearly. Dodge out of the fire path and avoid the burning surface it leaves behind. Fire on the arena floor can last a while.
  • Large AoE fire circles: It leaves big circles on the ground that are easy to spot and sidestep. One of the more manageable attacks once the pattern is recognised.
  • Fire rockets attack: Faster than the fire attacks and a bit harder to avoid cleanly. Stay mobile and keep moving when this one comes out.
  • General movement and repositioning: When the boss runs across the arena, spear throws become harder to land. Chase patiently rather than rushing in.

Tip: Press the camera button to widen the view. It makes it much easier to track the boss across the full arena and react before an attack lands rather than after.

A defensive approach works well here

If the attacks feel overwhelming early on, spending some time just running around the arena and watching the Golden Star cycle through its moves is genuinely worthwhile. Most of the attacks are avoidable once the timing is understood, and going in defensively first before committing to aggression makes the whole fight more manageable.

What happens after the Golden Star goes down

Once the health bar is fully depleted, a cutscene plays automatically. After it ends, skydive back down to the ground near the body. A second cutscene triggers at that point, and the mission to retrieve the power core concludes.

The Golden Star’s power core is obtained through the story sequence itself, and there is nothing to miss after the fight is won.
