Jesse Love offers sincere verdict on Josh Berry’s Cup surge as WBR faces query over 2027 driver alternative: “It doesn’t affect me”

As Josh Berry continues an impressive summer surge behind the wheel of the historic No. 21 Ford Mustang, social media noise surrounding Wood Brothers Racing‘s decision to pivot to Jesse Love for the 2027 NASCAR Cup Series season has become the new talk of the town.

Berry’s recent hot streak, highlighted by five consecutive top-10 finishes, has led critics across “NASCAR Twitter” to question the team’s upcoming driver transition. However, the O’Reilly sensation Love remains completely unbothered by the external commentary.

During Chase Media Day, Jesse Love addressed the narrative directly and made it clear that while he respects Berry’s talent, the external scrutiny carries zero weight on his mental preparation for his full-time Cup Series jump.

“I think really highly of Josh,” Love stated. “Having said that, his performance or what the Twitter guys say doesn’t have any affect on my mental being. It’s really great to see how good he’s running, because obviously that gives me a lot of hope for next year that we’re gonna have a shot to win races.”

For the defending NASCAR O’Reilly champion, Love, seeing the technical alliance between Team Penske and Wood Brothers Racing yield consistent front-running speed only reinforces his excitement for 2027.

“But I believe that Penske and the Wood Brothers do a great job of picking their drivers and believing in me and I really appreciate that. I know that Josh is doing a really good job right now and good for him. But it doesn’t affect me at all,” added Jesse Love.

Rather than feeling threatened by Josh Berry’s high-level execution, Jesse Love recognizes that a strong No. 21 program provides him with an elite platform when he takes over in 2027.
