Despite dealing with back soreness, Joe Burrow clarified that he will suit up for the second game of the season this weekend.
“Every game is important to me,” Burrow said. “I’m gonna do what it takes to be out there. If I’m not getting surgery, I’ll be out there.”
Last season, Burrow had suffered a turf toe injury in Week 2. This resulted in him being limited to eight games while the Bengals finished 6-11, failing to make the playoffs. This was the third straight season that they failed to qualify for the postseason.
Last Sunday, Burrow kicked off Year 7 with the Bengals on a positive note. The quarterback led his team to a 33-27 victory over the Bucs. He completed 25-of-35 passes for 254 yards, one TD, one INT and one sack. Last season, Burrow finished with 1,809 yards and 17 TDs passing.
Joe Burrow shares his thoughts on his former LSU teammate Derek Stingley Jr.
The Bengals will face the Houston Texans in Week 2. Joe Burrow will be going against his former LSU Tiger teammate Derek Stingley Jr. In the 2022 NFL Draft, the Texans drafted the cornerback with the No. 3 pick.
During Wednesday’s presser, Burrow shared his thoughts on Stingley.
“You could tell how special he was going to be already,” Burrow said. “That year he came before for bowl practice. … You could tell right away, he’s a big physical corner. Understands stems & splits, route concepts and, really, in my opinion, has the best ball skills in the league at corner.
“So, You have to be aware of where you’re throwing it and how you’re throwing it against that guy.”
So far, Derek Stingley Jr. has recorded 176 tackles, 15 interceptions and six tackles for loss. During last week’s 36-31 loss to the Bills, he posted four tackles for his team.
