After Josh Jacobs was arrested on domestic violence charges, the NFL placed him on the commissioner-exempt list back in August. This meant that he would receive his full salary despite being prohibited from playing games while the case continues.
On Friday, there was an update to Jacobs’ status. According to reports, the league shared a statement that the Green Bay Packers running back will be removed from the commissioner-exempt list on Monday. This means that he can suit up for next week’s showdown against the Detroit Lions.
Thanks for the submission!
“The National Football League today notified Josh Jacobs of the Green Bay Packers that he will be removed from the Commissioner Exempt List on Oct. 19,” the statement read. “He will be eligible to play in the Packers’ Week 7 game on Oct. 25 after missing six games.

“The NFL initiated an investigation under the Personal Conduct Policy following Jacobs’ arrest in May. The league’s review remains ongoing and is not affected by this change to Jacobs’ roster status.”

Josh Jacobs was arrested in May at his house for attacking his then-girlfriend. Last month, he pleaded no contest to battery and destruction of criminal property. The court ordered the running back to pay $1,000 in fines.
He also agreed with the prosecutors on several conditions that could dismiss his criminal damage charge within a year. This includes avoiding the victim of the case, staying out of trouble, paying restitution to the victim and completing counseling.
On Wednesday, reports surfaced that Jacobs had filed a lawsuit seeking to restrict access to records related to the incident. This was on the same day the woman also filed a restraining order against the Hobart/Lawrence Police Department on similar grounds.
TJ Houshmandzadeh shares his thoughts on Josh Jacobs’ future in the NFL after domestic violence charges
Just one day before the league decided to remove Jacobs from the commissioner-exempt list, former Bengals star TJ Houshmandzadeh shared his assessment of the situation.
He believed that the Packers running back wouldn’t be allowed to play this season. Houshmandzadeh also highlighted how women would criticize if the league allowed Jacobs back on the field.
“I don’t think he’ll play,” Houshmandzadeh said. “There are too many women in the National Football League that work in New York. There’s too many women who have advanced in where they are professionally who are going to see that video.
“I will say this, the NFL’s going to get that video. … If they let him play this year, and they have seen the video, somebody’s going to be p****d off that he’s playing, and they’re going to say something.”
The Packers are currently 3-2 and will face the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday at 8:20 p.m. ET.
