ATHENS, Ga. — The brother of Jose Ibarra, suspected within the Thursday homicide of Augusta University student Laken Riley, has been fired from the College of Georgia after he introduced a faux inexperienced card to work on the college’s eating corridor.
“Diego Ibarra presented a fake green card to the hiring unit to begin a temporary position as a dishwasher in Bolton Dining Hall at the University of Georgia on Feb. 6, 2024,” UGA spokesperson Greg Trevor informed Fox Information Digital in an announcement.
Ibarra then didn’t “submit further documentation required to keep the job and was never paid by the University” earlier than he was “fired,” Trevor added.
A neighbor informed Fox Information Digital that Diego Ibarra informed them he labored on the UGA eating corridor. That neighbor mentioned he and his brother had been residing at their condo in Athens for “about six months.”

Diego Ibarra has been arrested and charged with inexperienced card fraud. His youthful brother, Jose, is charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, kidnapping, hindering a 911 name and concealing the dying of one other in reference to the murder of 22-year-old Riley, a nursing pupil.
