There has been a major update regarding Baron Corbin’s WWE status. The veteran departed the promotion after his contract expired a couple of years ago.
Corbin has been competing as Bishop Dyer on the independent scene since leaving the company. He is in a tag team known as The SkyScrapers in MLW alongside former NXT star Dijak.
Thanks for the submission!
According to a new report from False Finish, Corbin is set to sign with the promotion in the near future. The publication noted that despite the veteran denying the reports, sources within the company expect him to return “soon.”
Corbin’s final televised match with the promotion took place on August 30, 2024. He teamed up with Apollo Crews in a losing effort to Los Garza. Apollo Crews was released by the company last month following WrestleMania 42.
Baron Corbin captured the United States Championship once during his time in the promotion. The former champion recently claimed that he had accepted eight shows in Europe as a way to refute reports that he was returning to WWE.
WWE legend discusses Baron Corbin’s exit from the company
Wrestling veteran Teddy Long shared his thoughts on Baron Corbin’s exit from the company after his contract expired.
Speaking on The Wrestling Time Machine podcast, Long suggested that it may have been the right call by the promotion to not renew Corbin’s contract. The former SmackDown General Manager noted that the promotion tried a lot of gimmicks with the 41-year-old over the years.
“Everything they gave him, it didn’t work. If it’s not working, they’re not going to keep putting you out on TV if you’re not doing nothing. Everything he did didn’t work. I don’t know whether they wrote the [wrong] stuff for him or they gave him the right character, I don’t know, sometimes it could be the individual himself. It might have been Baron Corbin,” said Long.
Corbin also won the NXT Tag Team Championships alongside Bron Breakker during his time in the promotion. Breakker underwent hernia surgery earlier this year but returned at WWE WrestleMania 42 to attack Seth Rollins and cost The Visionary his match against Gunther. He then went on to defeat Seth Rollins in a singles match at Backlash earlier this month. Only time will tell if Corbin gets the chance to return to WWE.
