“Paige Bueckers is Coming to Help Stewie Out in NY”: WNBA Fans React as Analyst Predicts Liberty to Put Everyone on Trade Block But Breanna Stewart

After the New York Liberty were swept by the Atlanta Dream in the playoff semifinals, reports suggest the team could take an aggressive approach this offseason. According to Madeline Kenney during an appearance on CLNS’ WNBA Today, the Liberty front office could be willing to put everyone, outside of Breanna Stewart, on the trading block.

“Nobody except Breanna Stewart should be comfortable heading into this offseason,” Kenney said. “ If you’re Clara Wu, everything has to be on the table to be evaluated and analyzed.”

The possibility of New York making major changes has already sparked plenty of reaction from fans.

“Paige is coming to help Stewie out in NY. Just be patient, goat!” @neo_noires said.

they’re gonna get booed but they’re right

Really curious to see what happens with the New York Liberty this offseason Feels inevitable that something big will happen

@WNBAonCLNS @madkenney @NoaDalzell @CLNSMedia Give us JJ or Fiebich, the Dream will win the next three championships. Get your emotions outta decision making. The roster just needs some tweaks, not an overhaul.

Breanna Stewart was one of the few consistent positives for the Liberty this season, averaging 20.8 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. She was also one of their only players to improve in the postseason, putting up 27.0 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game.

Despite her production, New York was swept 3-0 by Atlanta, marking the second consecutive season in which the Liberty failed to reach the WNBA Finals.

Breanna Stewart rips New York’s roster following postseason elimination

Following the New York Liberty’s loss on Oct. 9 that brought their 2026 season to an end, Breanna Stewart made her frustration clear, especially when discussing the team’s defense.

“Defense wins championships. It’s f**king true. It does,” Stewart said. “Atlanta, they have three of the top players, the top three in steals. It’s no compare and contrast because we’re the New York Liberty, but we just needed to understand our identity a little bit better from the jump.”

If the reports about New York potentially putting everyone except Stewart on the trade block are accurate, she could have a meaningful voice in how the roster is reshaped. Given how strongly she stressed the importance of defense after the elimination, it would not be surprising if adding stronger defensive players becomes one of the Liberty’s main priorities this offseason.
