Reckless Pursuit is a Chapter 1 main quest of Phantom Blade Zero that directly follows Diverging Paths. This part of the chapter takes place in the Shadowed Ravine. Since this is still in the opening section of the game, it follows the standard tutorial-based structure.
In this walkthrough, we will guide you through the Reckless Pursuit main-quest in Phantom Blade Zero.
Phantom Blade Zero: Reckless Pursuit walkthrough
After picking the heart in the opening section of Phantom Blade Zero, Soul wakes up on a cart, now passing through the Shadowed Ravine. The driver tells him of a mysterious plague in Pangzhen. But soon after The Hunt, Hunter of The Order, and his companions catch up to him.
This section of the game acts as a melee/ranged combat and defense tutorial. So test out everything the prompt asks you to do, to understand how the combat works in Phantom Blade Zero, especially on vehicles.
The quest takes place in four steps; these are as follows:
Step 1: Evade the ranged attacks from the two assassins
After the chase begins, you will be initially pursued by two assassins who will be using ranged attacks at the start. While these don’t do too much damage, it can slowly chip away at Soul’s health.
Use Auto-block to deflect the incoming projectiles, which will cost Sha-Chi (yellow bar below your health bar). This is a key mechanic of Phantom Blade Zero, so learn early how to manage your Sha-Chi.

Step 2: Defeat them both in close combat
After you deflect a few of their projectiles, the assassins will charge closer to your cart and both of them will proceed to attack you at the same time. The tutorial will ask you to attack them constantly; you can either use regular attacks or Sha-Chi attacks to deal damage.
Lock on to the target, parry their attacks (blue flash), and keep attacking until they are both defeated.
Step 3: Defeat the third assassin
Once the two riders are defeated, a third assassin will attack Soul. The fight takes place on the cart itself, so manage space and parry to create attack windows. The assassin deals a decent amount of damage, so avoid taking too many hits.
Defeat this assassin to trigger the boss fight.
Step 4: Take down The Hunt, Hunter of The Order
The Hunt only appears once you have defeated the third assassin. The Hunt acts as a standard boss encounter for the Reckless Pursuit main quest of Phantom Blade Zero.
This boss fight also takes place entirely on the cart, with The Hunt often swinging in and out using the environment.
While the boss fight is not difficult, it is designed to teach you which attacks to parry and which ones to avoid. Parry the blue flash attacks, while you must avoid the red ones.
After taking some damage, The Hunt will swing out of the cart and launch ranged attacks using his weapons. Deflect or dodge them to avoid taking any damage.
Do not overuse your Sha-Chi as it directly affects how you perform in combat. So only attack on openings rather than charging in recklessly.
Once the boss is defeated, a small cutscene will play showing you Soul’s purpose in Pangzhen. After that, the next chapter Against the Flow begins.
