Senate votes down first impeachment article towards DHS Secretary Mayorkas

The primary article of impeachment towards Division of Homeland Safety Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas was deemed unconstitutional by the Senate on Wednesday in a party-line vote. 

The primary of two articles of impeachment alleged Mayorkas engaged within the “willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law” concerning the southern border in his capability as DHS secretary.

Majority Chief Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., proposed some extent of order declaring the article unconstitutional, to which nearly all of senators agreed following a number of failed motions by Republicans.

The article was deemed unconstitutional by a vote of 51-48, with Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska voting current.
