When they launched a uniform survey less than two weeks ago, no one expected the St. Louis Cardinals would act on it this quickly. But one of the changes posited is set to take effect this weekend.
The Cardinals announced on Tuesday, August 11, that — likely due to the results of the survey, which is now closed — they would wear navy blue caps in all their road games for the rest of the 2026 Major League Baseball season, starting with their trip to Wrigley Field to play the Chicago Cubs on Friday, August 14.
The Cardinals primarily wore the navy blue caps — which feature a red “STL” monogram outlined in white on the front — on the road between 1992 and 2012. Starting in 2013, the team wore red caps on the road, but kept the navy lids for Sunday home games and for road games against teams with predominantly red uniforms.
The Cardinals’ uniform survey also asked fans for their opinions on home caps, on wearing their Victory Blue alternate jerseys at home for select games and on whether they’d like to see a new City Connect uniform in the future. It also had fans rank the five uniforms currently in the Cardinals’ rotation: home white, “The Lou” City Connect, road gray, cream home alternate, and Victory Blue road alternate.
The Cardinals currently sit in third place in the National League Central Division with a 59-60 record, 15 games behind the Milwaukee Brewers. They’re also 4.5 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies for the last NL wild card playoff berth.
