Stuart Fails to Save the Universe trailer: Everything we know about the upcoming The Big Bang Theory spin-off
The series follows Stuart Bloom, once the struggling owner of Pasadena’s Comic Center, after he accidentally breaks a device created by Sheldon Cooper and Leonard Hofstadter. The malfunction triggers what the show describes as a “multiverse Armageddon,” causing reality itself to unravel.
Faced with a crisis far beyond anything he has experienced before, Stuart is forced into an unlikely mission to restore order across multiple universes. Helping him along the way are Denise, his girlfriend; geologist Bert Kibbler; and physicist Barry Kripke, who joins the adventure despite his often difficult personality.
Stuart Fails to Save the Universe first trailer shows the scale of the disaster. It opens outside the Comic Center before shifting to scenes of destruction, strange alternate worlds, and bizarre versions of familiar characters.
One standout scene features an alternate version of Stuart explaining the situation to the main Stuart, telling him that they come from different streams of reality. The clip suggests that the series will combine the franchise’s trademark humor with a much larger science-fiction premise than fans have previously seen.
Several familiar faces from The Big Bang Theory universe appear throughout the trailer. Brief glimpses reveal Christine Baranski returning as Beverly Hofstadter, Riki Lindhome reprising Ramona Nowitzki, and Teller once again playing Larry Fowler.
Jon Cryer also appears in the trailer’s kaleidoscopic montage of alternate-universe characters. There’s also references to Leonard Hofstadter, portrayed by Johnny Galecki, while the Stuart Fails to Save the Universe premise leaves the door open for appearances from other original cast members.
Leading the cast are Kevin Sussman as Stuart, Lauren Lapkus as Denise, Brian Posehn as Bert, and John Ross Bowie as Barry Kripke. Behind the scenes, the series is created, written, and executive produced by the trio of Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady, and Zak Penn.
The project marks the fourth television series set within The Big Bang Theory universe and the first direct sequel to the original sitcom. Stuart Fails to Save the Universe is scheduled to premiere on July 23, 2026, on HBO Max.
