Tony Romo responds to broadcast criticism forward of Tremendous Bowl telecast: ‘It is only a regular arc of a profession’

Social media platforms have generally become spaces where critiques are commonplace. Romo argued that someone who consistently praised the CBS Sports broadcast crew on social media could be viewed as “foolish.” He also noted that people have approached him and expressed their appreciation for the broadcasts.

“Should you appreciated our broadcast, and also you stated, ‘Wow, I love Jim Nantz and Tony Romo,’ and also you stated that on there in your tweet, are you going to maintain doing that each week, or would that make you look just a little foolish?” he said. “I feel there’s way more individuals who I see each single day who come up and love our broadcast and our staff and CBS and what we do, and I hear that and really feel that. And you may really feel it in life. There’s so many individuals which have stated they love us.”

Last year, a report from the New York Post’s Andrew Marchand stated that CBS leadership spoke with Romo during the previous offseason about how he prepares for his NFL telecasts. The company executives also sought to help Romo find methods that would allow him to develop better on-air chemistry with his broadcast partner, Jim Nantz, according to the report.

Romo has taken some heat this season for referring to Taylor Swift as the “spouse” of Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce, but he has admitted that the reference was intended to be a joke.

The Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers face off in Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas on February 11.
