ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter reported on X on Sept. 22 that further testing showed Dart’s injury was worse than initially thought.

Over the offseason in May, Dart made headlines by introducing Donald Trump at a political rally in Suffern, New York. Trump subsequently praised Dart and called him one of the “great ones”.
Jaxson Dart suffered the injury on Sept. 21 during the Giants’ Monday Night Football game against the Los Angeles Rams. He was hurt during New York’s opening drive after his left knee buckled when he was hit by Rams defenders Byron Young and Josaiah Stewart. Dart left the game and was later ruled out.
At first, the injury was believed to be a sprained MCL. The Giants were waiting for MRI results to learn more about the injury.
Further testing then showed that the injury was more serious than first expected. The latest update has put season-ending surgery on the table.
Dart became the Giants’ starting quarterback in Week 4 of the 2025 NFL season.
The team officially named him the starter ahead of its Sept. 28, 2025, game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
He kept the starting job for the rest of the 2025 season and started 12 games as a rookie.
Dart entered the 2026 season as the Giants’ starting quarterback. He also had a strong start to the season, throwing for 230 yards and three touchdowns against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1.
