Two U.S Navy sailors had been reported lacking whereas conducting operations Thursday off the coast of Somalia, the U.S. Central Command mentioned.

Search and rescue operations are presently ongoing, the statement said.

Officers mentioned that the 2 sailors had been reported lacking on Thursday night.

The transient assertion gave no further details about what the pair had been doing after they went lacking.

CENTCOM mentioned that the sailors had been forward-deployed to the U.S. fifth Fleet (C5F) space of operations and supported a “extensive variety of missions.”

“Out of respect for the families affected, we will not release further information at this time,” the assertion mentioned.
