US forces launch self-defense strike on Houthis, accuse group of presenting ‘an imminent risk’ in Pink Sea

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) introduced that its forces performed a self-defense strike in opposition to Houthi forces early Sunday morning.

In a press release printed on X Sunday night, CENTCOM defined that American forces “struck four anti-ship cruise missiles, all of which were prepared to launch against ships in the Red Sea.”

“U.S. forces identified the missiles in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen and determined they presented an imminent threat to U.S. Navy ships and merchant vessels in the region,” CENTCOM’s assertion learn.

“These actions will protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer and more secure for U.S. Navy vessels and merchant vessels.”

Earlier on Sunday, CENTCOM printed video displaying U.S. forces supporting joint strikes in opposition to Iranian-backed Houthi militants on Saturday.

The video confirmed rockets launching from the ships in pitch-black darkness. The efforts have been a part of joint strikes in opposition to the Houthis, which included assist from the UK, Australia, Canada, Denmark, Bahrain, the Netherlands and New Zealand.

CENTCOM mentioned that the Saturday strikes have been launched from the usCarney, the usGravely and the usDwight D. Eisenhower.

For the reason that Israel-Hamas warfare escalated within the fall, Houthis have routinely attacked industrial vessels within the Pink Sea.

On Saturday, Protection Secretary Lloyd Austin mentioned that the latest counter-strikes are aimed to “degrade the capabilities” of the Houthis.

“These strikes are intended to further disrupt and degrade the capabilities of the Iranian-backed Houthi militia to conduct their reckless and destabilizing attacks against U.S. and international vessels lawfully transiting the Red Sea,” Austin mentioned in a press release on Saturday.

“This collective action sends a clear message to the Houthis that they will continue to bear further consequences if they do not end their illegal attacks on international shipping and naval vessels,” he added.
