Japanese VTuber KomaiUme recently went viral after accidentally revealing her face during a livestream. The VTuber is typically recognized for her blue-haired, cat-eared avatar, which is styled like an anime character. She usually goes live on YouTube, where she sings, plays video games with other VTubers, does ASMR, and talks to her viewers.
On YouTube, KomaiUme has over 84,000 subscribers and over 4 million views across her channel.
On August 19, 2026, she went live on the platform with both her human and VTuber face on display unknowingly. She initially did not notice that her webcam was on, and it took a second for her to realize. Before this, she was chatting with her viewers as usual, and as soon as she saw that her face was on the live stream, she exclaimed, shocked:
“Ah! Oh no! Wait a minute! What?! Wait a minute! Wait a minute!”
She then changed her stream overlay to cover the entire screen.

KomaiUme apologised for the technical mishap, mentioned that it was completely unintentional, and that moving forward, she’ll double-check her equipment to ensure such a thing doesn’t happen again:
“Regarding the recent stream, I wasn’t able to sufficiently check the streaming setup, and as a result, an unintended issue occurred. I am truly sorry. To prevent this from happening again in the future, I will be even more thorough in confirming the equipment and streaming environment before each stream.”
Overall, the incident does not seem to have changed her streaming schedule significantly, and she suggested she’d be back to her regularly scheduled programming soon enough:
“Also, I’m sorry for taking yesterday off without any notice 🥲 Thank you to everyone who was worried about me. I’d be thrilled if we can continue spending fun times together from here on out. 🌷”
