AEW World Champion Will Ospreay successfully defended his gold against Samoa Joe, “Speedball” Mike Bailey, Adam Copeland, Konosuke Takeshita, Kazuchika Okada, Ricochet, and Darby Allin in a Clockwork Carnage match at WrestleDream 2026. Something very interesting happened after the show.
After WrestleDream’s conclusion, Renee Paquette interviewed Ospreay backstage. Eventually, the Aerial Assassin came face to face with Adam Copeland. Even though the Rated R Superstar fought valiantly in the Clockwork Carnage, he failed to win the World Title.
Will Ospreay had a brief but emotional exchange with the WWE Hall of Famer. The Champion said that wrestling the former Edge was a dream come true. Furthermore, he asked the legend to ‘save a date’ to lock horns with him one-on-one.
Adam Copeland announced a few days ago that 2027 will be his last year as an in-ring competitor. Ospreay vs. Copeland was seemingly on the cards. It will be a historic moment if the Rated R Superstar wins the AEW World Championship.

In a recent interview with 1010X, Will Ospreay opened up about Adam Copeland’s recent announcement regarding retirement. He said that the Rated R Superstar is one of his childhood heroes, and he wants the legend to ‘save a date’ for him.
“He was great to be, like, an ear and a great, like, voice to be able to, like, listen to because he went through it himself. I’m super grateful for his presence in AEW, and, like, I’m hoping that, like, if this is going to be the last run of his career, like, of course, I’m flattered to be in the Clockwork Carnage with him and everything is going to be about him, making sure that I keep that championship. But then I just kind of want to say to Adam Copeland, like, you’ve got to save a date for me, boss,” he said. [H/T: Fightful]
It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the WWE legend. He might have a World Title reign before hanging up his boots.
