4 WWE stars who MUST NOT crew up with Danhausen at Backlash 2026

Danhausen has become one of the most entertaining figures in WWE in recent times. His spooky yet hilarious character has enchanted fans, drawing them into his character. The 35-year-old is set to compete in an exciting tag team match against The Miz and Kit Wilson at Backlash this Sunday. He would team up with a mystery partner that WWE hasn’t revealed yet. Well, the suspense has been getting stronger as the event approaches.

The company has several incredible options to look forward to when it comes to selecting Danhausen’s tag team partner. However, the creative team must be careful not to opt for a choice that delivers a momentary pop at the expense of long-term character integrity. Even if the alliance is only for one night, the decision carries weight and could shape audience perception in meaningful ways. Triple H therefore needs to strike the right balance.

Here are four WWE stars who must not team up with Danhousen at Backlash 2026:

#4. Jelly Roll

Jelly Roll was quite active in WWE during the WrestleMania 42 season, making several appearances and also competing in the ring. His celebrity presence could bring massive eyeballs to Backlash 2026 and therefore, the company might look to book him as Danhousen’s mystery partner. However, this must not happen. Although the country rapper has a history with Kit Wilson and The Miz, his involvement in this tag team match would be absolutely redundant.

Repeated celebrity involvement in WWE storylines has frustrated fans and it was clearly seen during the WrestleMania season. The backlash it received was unfathomable. Therefore, Triple H must not make that mistake again by pairing Jelly Roll with Danhausen in the tag team match at Backlash 2026. Also, Roll’s gritty, authentic persona doesn’t perfectly mesh with the latter’s supernatural goofiness, potentially creating awkward chemistry.

#3. Cody Rhodes

Cody Rhodes holds the Undisputed WWE Championship and is the face of the company. However, he is currently not slated for Backlash 2026 and a major reason behind it is his eye injury. However, the company might still book Rhodes at the upcoming PLE with minimal physical involvement. Triple H could therefore pair him with Danhausen in the tag team match just to feature The American Nightmare at the Backlash PLE in Tampa, Florida.

Well, that would be a deplorable move and the creative team must avoid it. Cody Rhodes is the world champion and competing in a mere tag team just for the sake of being featured would look absurd. His participation would only generate short-term pop without doing any good to Danhausen’s storyline. Besides, Rhodes recently got ambushed by Gunther on SmackDown and his focus should remain on The Ring General and the Undisputed WWE Championship.

#2. CM Punk

The one name that is currently in rumors to be Danhausen’s mystery partner is CM Punk. The Best in the World showing up at Backlash 2026 and competing in a tag team match against The Miz and Kit Wilson would generate massive pop. Sure, it would be a huge moment for the fans in Tampa, Florida. But what good would it do? Punk’s involvement in that match would only highlight the fact that the creative currently has no concrete plans for him.

The Second City Saint was the World Heavyweight Champion just a month ago, riding on top of the world. Placing him in a tag team match that holds little to no storyline significance would feel like a clear step down from that stature. It would also risk undermining CM Punk’s aura and send the message that he is currently directionless. For a superstar like Punk, every appearance should hold significant importance and carry long-term storyline plans.

#1. John Cena must not be Danhausen’s partner

John Cena will grace Backlash 2026 with his presence as he is officially slated to appear at the spectacle. He had a segment with Danhausen, The Miz and Kit Wilson at WrestleMania 42, which sparked the rumors of him being revealed as the mystery partner. WWE has often brought superstars out of retirement for a one-off match or to deliver shock factor and it’s no new thing. But when it comes to Cena, the company must not make this move.

The Cenation Leader retired in December last year and has adopted a role as an ambassador and global promoter for WWE since then. There is absolutely no point in forcing him to come out of retirement just to team up with Danhausen. John Cena built his legacy on consistency, integrity and staying true to his words and the Stamford-based promotion should honor that commitment. Hence, WWE must not reveal Cena as Danhausen’s tag team partner.
