The MCU is changing into a well-funded and glorified WWE

WWE is the juggernaut of professional wrestling. Just like that, in Hollywood, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the biggest franchise. Recently, popular star Nicholas Cage compared both worlds and took some shots at the Stamford-based promotion.

Nicholas Cage made a special appearance at the most recent Fan Expo Dallas. During his appearance, he compared the MCU to WWE, where wrestlers wear unique outfits and head into the ring to wrestle. Cage mentioned that seeing actors who are over 50 years old putting on ridiculous outfits and getting ready for a fight makes them look like they are a part of a glorified version of the WWE.

“I do say this with love. When I see these 50-plus and otherwise intelligent and remarkably gifted thespians putting on these ridiculous outfits and getting ready for the fight — let’s face it, it’s all cutting to the fight — it’s hard for me not to be reminded that the MCU is becoming a well-funded and glorified WWE,” [H/T The Playlist]

Many professional wrestlers have transitioned from professional wrestling to become full-time actors.

Former WWE champion Batista revealed his goals in Hollywood

One of the most successful wrestlers to transition to acting is former World Heavyweight Champion Batista. He has acted in some of the biggest film projects, and that includes the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He plays Drax the Destroyer in the MCU and has received a lot of appreciation from the audience and critics for how good an actor he is.

During an interview with Sports Illustrated, Batista shared that his goal in Hollywood is to earn respect, just like how he earned his respect in the Stamford-based promotion.

“In wrestling, the respect I earned from people like The Undertaker, Triple H, and Eddie Guerrero meant everything to me. It’s the same in Hollywood. I want to feel like I deserve to be here, that I’ve earned my place among the best,” he said. [H/T fightful.com]
