Daniil Medvedev will face fellow Russian Roman Safiullin in the Hangzhou Open semifinals on Monday, with the top seed continuing his push for his third title of the 2026 season.

Medvedev should have the advantage if he can drag Safiullin into longer baseline exchanges. Safiullin has the heavier attacking game and can take the ball early to rush his opponent, but Medvedev’s depth, court coverage and ability to redirect pace make it difficult to hit through him consistently. The Russian can also use his return to put Safiullin under pressure from the start of service games.
Safiullin’s best chance will be to keep points short and attack before Medvedev settles into his rhythm.
