Raquel Rodriguez won the Women’s Intercontinental Championship from Sol Ruca on the July 27 episode of WWE RAW. This marked Big Mami Cool’s first singles title win on the main roster.
That said, while Rodriguez could make a great champion, only one person should end up taking the title off her: IYO SKY. Here are four reasons why The Genius of the Sky should dethrone Raquel Rodriguez for the Women’s Intercontinental Championship.

#4. IYO SKY has already proven she can beat Raquel Rodriguez
IYO SKY already has a win over Raquel Rodriguez from a couple of months ago. The two stars faced each other in the Queen of the Ring semifinal on June 15. The Genius of the Sky defeated Big Mami Cool to advance in the tournament.
That gives the Japanese star a strong reason to challenge for the Women’s Intercontinental Championship. Rodriguez is now the champion. However, IYO can point to their previous match and remind her that she has already beaten her once.
If Big Mami Cool wants to prove herself as a champion, she could get another chance against IYO. This time, the Women’s Intercontinental Championship would be on the line.
WWE has already established that The Genius of the Sky can beat Rodriguez. The next step could be doing it again and taking the title.
#3. IYO SKY needs to regain momentum after WWE SummerSlam
IYO SKY had a big opportunity at SummerSlam. She won the Queen of the Ring tournament to earn a Women’s World Championship match against Liv Morgan. However, The Genius of the Sky could not defeat the champion.
That loss puts IYO in a difficult spot. She is one of the most talented women on the roster and needs another major opportunity to keep her momentum going. Challenging Raquel Rodriguez for the Women’s Intercontinental Championship could give her exactly that.
If the 36-year-old star wins the title, she would quickly move on from her SummerSlam loss and have another championship to fight for and defend. It would also give the Japanese star a chance to build another strong title run.

IYO SKY could have a hard time getting another Women’s World Championship opportunity right now. Becky Lynch and Stephanie Vaquer returned after SummerSlam and immediately targeted Liv Morgan. With both women now going after Liv, the Women’s World Championship scene is already crowded.
WWE should keep The Genius of the Sky involved in a major story, and winning the Women’s Intercontinental Championship would give her that opportunity. It would also keep her in the spotlight while Becky, Stephanie, and Liv continue their own rivalry.

IYO SKY is already one of WWE’s most accomplished women. She is a former Women’s World Champion and has competed in many major matches. That is exactly why she would be a great fit for the Women’s Intercontinental Championship. The title needs to feel important. Having someone like IYO hold it could help WWE achieve that. Becky Lynch also showed that the championship can be elevated when a major star carries it.
Moreover, IYO could help the entire women’s midcard. The Genius of the Sky can have good matches with almost anyone on the roster. Her title reign could give WWE more reasons to feature the Women’s Intercontinental Championship and build new challengers around her.
